Mission & Constitution

Mission

The Society advances understanding and wise stewardship of estuarine and coastal ecosystems worldwide. Its mission is to:

  • promote research in estuarine and coastal waters of Atlantic Canada
  • promote communication on matters related to aquatic science in Atlantic Canada
  • gather and disseminate to Society members and the general public scientific, technical, and other information about estuaries and the coastal zone through meetings, publications, and other forms of communication
  • encourage the teaching of coastal and estuarine science in colleges and universities.

Membership in the Society is open to all who support these goals.

The Society addresses the purposes listed above by convening an annual conference, through attending meetings with the Estuarine Research Federation (odd-numbered years), and through periodic publication of a newsletter. In addition, the Society serves as a source of advice on estuarine and coastal matters by responding to requests for information from legislative and management organizations.
